My new husband and I just got back from our honeymoon - we went out to Glacier Park and northwestern Montana. While there, I visited Bridget Byrnes Fuglei. We spent a few hours together, and had a blast catching up! It was the highlight of my trip! Here's a photo her husband took of us.

Jazz Helping & Jazz Helping: Second Serving  Benefit CD’s Update and Holiday Special

Thanks to the help of many, sales of both Jazz Helping and the new Jazz Helping: Second Serving have done well over the last many months, and have allowed us to donate over $5100.00 thus far to the New York Police & Fire Widows & Children’s Benefit Fund. The joy of being able to help out in this way and of recording these solo jazz piano discs has been a tremendous honor and a special artistic-musical pleasure.

With the holidays coming around the bend, noting that many folks have given these CD’s as holiday gifts to others, I’ve decided to offer a special on both CD’s from now through Christmas.

Free shipping--mailing on all CD’s—so, instead of $16.95 each, they’re $15.00 apiece. AND if you order more than 3 total, they’re $14.00 apiece, each autographed and personalized to whomever you wish, again with free shipping. CD’s are always mailed promptly, the day after the order is received.  Open Flyer

Here is an updated picture for you. It was on the cover of the Palm Beach Post last Wednesday. Donald and I played with Anika Sorenstam again this year in the pro/am at the LPGA Championship that we host at Trump International in Palm Beach. Always fun with those two even though we did not defend last years win. I am still the Chairman of Trump National Bedminster (http://www.trumpnational.com/) and I am really enjoying that. The family is great but it is amazing that I have a daughter in College who is home for Thanksgiving vacation.

If you haven't ALREADY completed your holiday shopping, I want to suggest you contact classmate Eric Wunrow about getting signed copies of his new book for everyone you know. The art is excellent, the printing superb, and the price well within reason. Also, for those of us that are chained to chair, it is a great mental vacation! Eric has just published his first edition e-news of Eric's Trail Reports. Send him an email and ask to be put on the distribution list. Honestly, the pictures and writing can almost take the reader to these far and mysterious places. Here is Eric's address: EW@EricWunrow.com.

If you happen to know of any other of our classmates that are out there doing their own business, let the rest of know, and maybe we can support them and make our presents a bit more meaningful!

All the best, all the time,
Charlie

I just received my copy of Jazz Helping - Second Serving, by Tim Clausen and I love it.  Sitting at the computer with this playing in the background, you would almost think you were sitting at the Red Circle Inn (a favorite of my parents back then) with Tim tinkling the ivories in the lounge.  The recording is professionally done but with an honesty that makes it sound as though you are treated to a private session.  Do yourself a favor and order a copy from Tim while supplies last.  See below for information.

Well, Craig and I survived Hurricane Charlie just fine. A lot of branches and one tree came down, but no damage to the house! We were only without electric for 8 hours, which is incredible since there are people down here; a week & 1/2 later, still without it! My "little" sister Lynette had 3 trees fall on her house! (She & her family live in Deltona, which was hit harder than DeLand) Fortunately the trees came up by the roots and landed "softly" enough to not cause any major damage. They were without electric for 5 days. All in all, we were very fortunate, it could have been so much worse!

Just returned from an 80 mile walk in Wales, UK.  Drove all the way there and back from Luxembourg on a Suzuki 750 (more than 1,000 miles and a channel crossing) and I am cured of any further desire to tour on a bike.  The wife is pleased.  However, I highly recommend the walk.  Great fun and good exercise.  seth.ruef@education.lu.

Hi To All!!
I was just in Oconomowoc this past Sun. & Monday for a quick trip (I live in New Smyrna Beach, FL).  I was very upset and saddened to find out my old house may be torn down as part of a 10 year Master Plan.  The house is located at 221 E. Pleasant Street.  The plan may include demolishing this house along with 2 others on the street and 3 on St. Paul Street.  If anyone has ANY information regarding this could they please let me know. The house is not lived in right now and I believe the owner is Jeffrey Seymour.  If the house is going to be torn down I would really really love to get some of the architectural pieces inside, i.e. doors, bannister / railings, windows.  I think it is a travesty to tear these old houses down, much less to not salvage any of the old architectural pieces from them.  If you have a shred of information on any of this please please email me.  I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you.

As I get ready to return home, I thought I'd share a few pics with you. I've been here in Kuwait since Feb and will return to the DC area in in mid-June and begin the slow move toward closing this chapter in my life and will retire on 30 Sep. This has been an interesting trip, although I did not go north to Baghdad, I was able to travel to Qatar and return back to Saudi for a few days too. the pictures include a couple taken right at the Kuwaiti - Iraqi boarder crossing (the one warns our soldiers to watch out for kids as they will run in the road when the troops throw MREs to them as they drive by), a sand storm that came up quickly as we were driving to a base near the boarder, and one pic of what's called the "bone yard" - which is where all the 1000's of vehicles and artillery pieces now reside from the 1st Gulf War's "road of death" north of Kuwait City - the image that looks like a ridgeline in the background of that pic is actually more vehicles and arty pieces, truly remarkable in it's carnage - it makes you pause and ask why.

All the best and hope that you all have a wonderful summer

Ah Chris, you bring back many memories about the Rec Center Rink.  I don't think we made out on near the island, but there were others I do remember.  Recently, my nephew Jacob (My Brother Jim's son) had his birthday party on 1/10/04 on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, and all the kids and parents went to the rink for skating prior to cake and ice cream. Basically, we wanted to tire out the kids so the parents could indulge, but that didn't work.  There may have been 15 people besides our party of 18 or so, that were out their skating.  I was very disappointed in the turn out, but had a wonderful day, and greatly enjoyed being able to lace up the skates and relive the memories of the 440 yard oval, and the speed skating competitions (Eric Heiden did skate on that oval as an FYI) pompon games, and ice hockey on the inlet by the island.  I remember crashing the boards more than once, but I was not a good skater.  Going down to the rink on Friday nights to party, try and chase the ladies, oh man those were the days.  Since the party, my family and my brother's family have been back 2 or 3 times to the rink for a wonderful time, and actually we are going to buy some new skates for Michelle and myself to have the freedom to get down there and for me to relive my past.  For those who live in the area (We recently moved to Hubertus, near Holy Hill) it is a cheap form of enjoying ones' self ($ 10.00 resident season pass, unlimited usage) at any time since the rink is open until 9:00 or 10:00 pm on the weekdays, and 11:00 pm on the weekends.   My son was hooked and loved the opportunity to get on the lake, and try skating.  Kids have no fear of falling and hurting themselves, but us parents are another story.  Hope to see you on the ice at sometime!!!

I talked to Vicky Hubbard last week and she told me about the website. First I heard of it...lol. Please post my info on it in hope a few of our 'ol friends will get in touch. I'm sending a pic of my daughter and I. ... All is well here... still driving truck. ... I run from the Dells (that's where I've been living for the past 11 years) to the Twin Cities and back 5 days a week. Kinda like running to the store and back...lol. About 460 miles a day... about 7 hours worth. ... I have 2 boys...24 & 22, both married with 2 kids each and my daughter is at UW Madison.

9 a.m. Friday March 5th, 2004...Cooney High School flashback... Vic Passante has invited yours truly to give a presentation in the Little Theater to a sellout crowd of students, (all of whom are likely required to attend)... It's a trial run of sorts for a presentation I'm working on delivering to college audiences on "September 11th and How You Can Help in a Challenging World." I need a decent videotape of the presentation and Vic said they'd be more than happy to have a camera crew from Tom Pinter's now high-tech old department--using 3 cameras no less--do the honors and the editing, very professional-like, since the speaker offered to do this free of charge. Should be fun, hopefully not too nerve-wracking. Wish me luck! Am also busy recording Jazz Helping: Second Serving, the new CD, which will help benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

To all my Ice Skating & Hockey Playing friends....It was a sad day at the Cooney Rec Center rink a few Saturdays ago.  My Daughter had a figure skating competition in Chicago the weekend of 2/1 and we decided to drive up to Lake Mills after the event to see my Dad.  Well having lived in Texas all her 14 years, Tahlia has never skated on a lake so we took her to the Rec Center rink - and no one was there!!!!  I was crushed - luckily it was open so the 2 of us skated for a while, but what happened to the crowds?!!  I guess kids are just too busy with other stuff these days.  Tahlia fussed about the ice being uneven but then was hooked - we had to pull her off the ice.  And I got to skate that rink again, so for us it was a great time.  But do you remember skating out on the lake and the ice cracking under our feet?!  And sneaking around that little island to make out? And warming our frozen toes on the registers? I'll just have to hold onto those memories and maybe it was just too cold out that night.  Hope y'all are doing well! - Cris Duchow-Palafox: cris.palafox@brinker.com
